The Joys of Bulk Trash

Stopped off at the house to do some light work in the evening, and noticed that some Bulk Trash divers had completely torn up our nice neat piles that we set out. I'm sure the neighbors love us right now.

Why on earth would you need to completely tear open a garbage bag to get to the soap dish inside? *sigh* Looks like tonight will be spent cleaning up other peoples mess.

  1. Here's a tip about Bulk Trash Week. The goal is not to trash as much as you can, but freecycle as much as you can.

Find out the earliest set-out date. Put out some good stuff as an intro. Then let people go thru it. Then put out more. Then a few days later put out more. Professional pickers get the idea and spread the word.

Use large boxes or open brown grocery bags as containers so there's no ripped-open bag mess. You can continue to toss stuff in the boxes as you find more stuff you don't need. Save your landscaping debris and stuff for the very last day or ask a neighbor to let you put it on their lot on the day before pickup if you're over quota.

We never overdo our quota by spacing it out this way in the grace period before the pick up date. Our last bulk trash set-out we had what I'd call a 100% pick-up rate.

It is total freecycling and if its good useable stuff, it makes someone's day.
